New Project: High School Sports reporting

It's the start of a new year for high school sports, and as part of my goal to build up a personal portfolio, I've decided to start writing and posting recap stories from my favourite high school sports leagues in Calgary.

As we get set for another season of high school football, a new format is being used in the CSHSAA Senior League this year...all 27 member programs will compete in a single table, with divisional classifications not happening until the playoffs. There will be seven weeks of regular season play, with the playoffs taking place immediately afterwards. I'll be posting weekly recaps of Calgary's high school football league on this page, as well as give some commentary as to how the Calgary schools stack up against some of the other programs in Alberta.

Ahead of Week One of the CSHSAA Senior League, three Calgary schools have been ranked in the 5A top ten by Football Alberta...St. Francis clocks in at number four, having beaten Red Deer's Notre Dame Cougars in non-league play last week, and are set to play their first league game against Henry Wise Wood on September 5. The other two ranked Calgary teams in 5A, Number Six Ernest Manning and Number Eight Notre Dame will go head-to-head in Calgary's game of the week (according to Football Alberta), also on September 5. The Griffins (EM) are coming off a tight 1-point loss to Salisbury in non-league play last week, while the Pride (ND) kickstarted their season in Saskatoon, where they tied 14-14.

Additionally, Bishop Carroll sits Number Ten in Football Alberta's 4A Rankings...The Cardinals will officially start their year against Lord Beaverbrook on September 5.
